I just realized that since ReleaseNotes1515 I no longer get this newsletter. Anyone else have this problem?

Newsletters have some bad bugs at the moment. They can, on some systems, result in 100% CPU utilization. DavidOrnstein probably turned them off. -- CraigAndera [2004-08-01]

Agree that this is a problem. I think a better answer is for FlexWiki to not try to be a list server, but instead to have a single address in the newsletter Subscribers field, which is the address of a real mailing list, on a real listserver. That way people can subscribe and unsubscribe anonymously, and even sophisticated spiders can't get anything. We will probably be switching to this approach once we have the SourceForge site set up and running, since it integrates mailing list creation and administration. However, if someone wants to pitch in and write the email address obfuscation bits, that would be cool too. -- CraigAndera [2004-08-01]

I like the idea to be notified and would like to see subscriptions stay. Better, I'd like to be able to subscribe to specific pages, i.e. my own personal page, and then people could use it to contact me, for example. What type of obfuscation do you think would be required? Just encoding letters, or something like mike<at>xtras<dot>net? -- MikeSchinkel [2004-08-02]

Well, I wasn't talking about removing subscriptions: just leveraging a listserver to not put everyone's email on the web page. I think that covers the 90% case. However, you obviously still have a use case for your personal email address to appear on a page and would like it to be obfuscated. I honestly don't know what it takes to mess with email addresses enough to break spam scanners these days, but we certainly could add a behavior that would turn "candera@candera.sytes.net" into "candera at candera dot sytes dot net" or whatever else. I suggest you add a FeatureRequest so we have the idea written down somewhere central. Then it's just a matter of convincing someone to implement the feature. -- CraigAndera [2004-08-03]
