If you want to contact me leave a message here (I don't like my email address to be available for the entire world ...)
I'm a software developer for an insurance company in the Netherlands.
This morning I finally managed to add equality tests to WikiTalk. This means you can compare strings (as well as other things) to see if they match. See the StringDemo for some examples.
Thanks for trying. I noticed you looked at my PlayPage -- Yes, you are right I want to do something like a database. This is where I see a Wiki being able to have huge power, i.e. if we can use it like a free-form database to get a community to evolve a schema and also collect data at the same time. DavidOrnstein said FlexWiki's caching is good so maybe I don't have to have database to do this. The other option is to modify FlexWiki to use a database and add such features. As for being impossible, I will have to accept only that it is "maybe currently" impossible! WikiTalk really needs to be able to compare if it is going to be generally useful for anything. Maybe it is time for me to bug David... -- MikeSchinkel
Mike, I think WikiTalk is not yet "mature". I think it's in a state now that it is a good way of making a dynamic UI for your site (changing the borders). And to do some other things. But it can't be named a real "Language" if it doesn't have "if-then-else" or string-comparison. You mentioned that DavidOrnstein said FlexWiki's caching is good. But if I open the WikiTalkObjectReference page (which has a few WikiTalk lines), it takes ages to load. I think David is busy enough already.. Bug David? If you read his blog at microsoft... -- WouterCX

Note that you do not need (or want) to enclose WikiNames in square brackets. You've done this, e.g., on CrossBrowserFlexWiki. Simply type the name. -- StuartCelarier, 5 August 2004
Stuart, I hate the "WikiNames" concept without square brackets, since it converts every wiki111 word into a Wiki link. I don't want that. Because some text that I copy from other sources that I Wikify gets these nasty Wiki links, where I don't want them to appear. -- WouterCX [2004-08-24]
Question: You seem to have a better understanding of WikiTalk than anyone else I've seen. I'm just wondering where you got it from? I'd really like to understand this from your _NormalBorders file:
"||{T-}",
"'''Search'''",
"||",
Newline,
"||{+}",
But man is that tough to work with. Help please? -- JustinCollum, 24 Aug 04
Answer: Found an explanation of all this stuff here: TableFormattingRules -- JustinCollum, 27 Aug 04
