Getting Started on Windows

Note
  1. Download and install TortoiseSVN. 1
  2. If prompted, restart your PC. 2
  3. Create a ""FlexWiki folder on your hard disk to contain your Subversion repository.
  4. Right-click the FlexWiki* folder, point to *TortoiseSVN"", and then click Create repository here.
  5. In the ""FlexWiki folder, create a trunk folder.
  6. Right-click the ""FlexWiki folder, and then click SVN Checkout.
  7. In the Checkout dialog box, type https://flexwiki.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/flexwiki/flexwikicore/trunk" into the URL of repository* box, ensure that <Folder Path>\FlexWiki\flexwikicore\trunk is specified in the Checkout directory box, and then click OK.
  8. In the Authentication dialog box, type your Sourceforge.net username for SVN write operations into the Username, type your Sourceforge.net user password for write operations into the Password box, check the Save authentication box to save your credentials, and then click OK.

You now have a local copy of the latest version of the main FlexWiki source code.

1 If you are using Windows Vista, you may need to download a nightly build, rather than using the latest stable release.

2 I found that I could terminate the explorer.exe process and launch a new one by using Windows Task Manager rather than restarting my PC -- DerekLakin, 24/July/2007

Getting Other Branches or Projects

You can get the source code for other branches, projects, or specific versions of FlexWiki by creating a local folder to check out to, and then specifying the relevant location for the URL of repository in the Checkout dialog box. You can use the Repository Browser to inspect the structure of the FlexWiki source.

For more information about using TortoiseSVN, see the TortoiseSVN Manual

Icon Overlays

TortoiseSVN displays icon overlays over the file and folder icons in Windows Explorer (like the short cut overlay, but more useful ). For more information about the icon overlays, see TortoiseSVN Icon Overlays

To launch the Repository Browser

  1. Right-click a folder, point to TortoiseSVN, and then click Repo-browser.
  2. In the Repository Browser dialog box, type https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/flexwiki/ into the URL box, and then press ENTER.

Which Module Should I Use?

At this time, all developers should be using the FlexWikiCore module.

Which Branch Should I Use?

At the time of this writing (2007.July.24) there are two branches in Subversion: 'HEAD' and 'branches/1.8.x'. The HEAD branch contains the code for FlexWiki 2.0, and is the default. The '1.8.x' branch contains (unsurprisingly) the code for version 1.8 of FlexWiki. As version 2.0 will be under development for quite some time while we work on version 2.0, the two branches will both be active for a while.

If you are working on FlexWiki 2.0, you should use the HEAD branch. If you are working on FlexWiki 1.8, you should use the 'branch-1-8' branch.
