Migration From FlexWiki to MOSS

• Copy and paste is possible from FlexWiki rendered pages (not source) directly into new documents in MOSS, including formatting, but copied links retain their original destination. So, if a topic contains links to other topics, then those links in MOSS will be to the original FlexWiki topic.

MOSS Positives

• WYSIWYG content creation/editing.
• Easier to have lists or other content inside a table.
• Direct access to underlying HTML for complete control over content and formatting.¹
• Anything can be a topic title. ²
• Integrated part of SharePoint.

MOSS Negatives

• No "double-click to edit" support.
• No support for WikiPageProperties.
• No preview functionality for editing.
• No scripting language support (like WikiTalk).
• Not possible to dynamically include all or part of one topic in another topic.
• Direct access to underlying HTML for complete control over content and formatting.¹
• Anything can be a topic title. ²
• No support for linking to external references (InterWiki)

¹ This is included in both the positives and negatives sections because it is a very powerful and useful feature, but "Wiki" means quick, and the aim of wikis is to enable you to put content together quickly and easily, so full HTML support is unlikely to be used on a day-to-day basis.

² On the one hand this makes it easier for "newbies" to create content, but on the "wiki means quick" front, this makes it harder to create links from one topic to another.

FlexWiki Positives

• Double-click to edit.
• Create new topic from title bar.
• WikiTalk scripting language, which enables dynamic topics.
• WikiPageProperties.
• Preview from edit page.
• Dynamic content linking from one topic (or part thereof) to another topic.
• InterWikis.
• Automatic pluralisation of topic names (e.g. MyTopic and MyTopics are the same in FlexWiki).
